Underground Water Leak Detector classification
All available models work differently. There are the following categories:
Sound related.
networking.
Each team has certain design functions, special working principles, scope and functions. Let us understand them in more detail.
Audio equipment
During the interruption of the groundwater supply system, leaks can cause vibrations in the ground. Acoustic leakage detectors using microphones capture these vibrations and convert them into electrical signals to determine the location of the fault.
Such devices can use electronic filtering of the input signal. The main task of these filters is to determine the total noise generated by the running water.
The main feature of these leak detectors is the degree of filtration. The higher the degree of filtration, the more thorough interference suppression is. Special sensors are used for various soils-concrete, turf, clay, ice (if the pipe is located inside).
Acoustic Underground Water Leak Detector
There are also acoustic leak detectors that do not use filters. They are difficult to diagnose in cities, because too much noise will prevent you from accurately capturing the necessary noise. Therefore, only very experienced operators can operate such equipment.
There is another acoustic Underground Water Leak Detector that uses the pseudo-Scalatina option. They determined the distance to the fault and considered the difference in vibration values.
Related devices
These devices use related methods. Two sensors are used and they are installed on the pipeline. They measure the vibration and sound signal triggered by the leak, and record the difference in the passage time of the signal from the first and second sensors from the failure to the second.
Knowing the speed of sound passing through the pipe and the distance between the sensors, you can accurately determine the location of the accident and eliminate the fault.
The sensitivity of the equipment is not affected by temperature, soil type or pipeline pressure. Therefore, they have more uses, not only for water supply systems, but also for oil pipelines.
The information from the sensor is transmitted to the operator's computer monitor via a radio channel. Afterwards, the person in charge can listen to the increased signal through headphones, or determine its strength in the graphic display.
Network equipment
The working principle of the network leak detector is the same as that of the related detector, but there are more sensors. They are placed throughout the highway and constantly monitor the condition of the pipeline.
These devices analyze the noise and if a leak is detected, the information is immediately transmitted to the working PC or server. Due to the built-in battery and low power consumption, the sensor can remain in the system for up to 5 years.
To save battery power, the sensor is programmed to check at regular intervals. In the device settings, you can set certain parameters related to the environment and location.
When using these leak detectors, operators no longer need to spend time searching for faults. If the patrol engineer is within range of the sensor, he will automatically receive all the necessary information.
